Eczema on hands can be a very annoying condition, and it's fairly common. Eczema can occur on most parts of your body, however, as the skin on your hands is in contact with the external world for much longer periods than other parts, it's the probable area of your body that may develop eczema. People working with chemicals see in an increased occurrence of eczema on hands for the obvious reason that the chemicals irritate the layers of your skin, resulting in irritation and/or eczema. This does not mean that only chemists get eczema, no, anyone working in the following industries (this is just a small list) has a higher risk : cleaning and related services, medical, beauty.

Another factor that increases your chances of developing eczema on hands is genetics. As with all conditions, genetics plays a very important role. If closely related family members suffer from eczema then there is a higher chance of you developing it as well. Obviously there are many more factors that might reduce or increase the risk, keep that in mind. In general people who develop eczema due to genetics have an allergy for the chemicals they got in contact with.

Eczema on hands can be found on any part of the hands. The palms and back of hands, or even a large area covering both can be affected. Eczema at first seems like a mild rash that most people don't pay attention to. But if left untreated it can grow into quite a painful affair. The skin becomes extremely dry and red, in more extreme cases swelling can occur. The further it develops the more pain is associated with eczema. One of the most frustrating symptoms of eczema is extreme itching, the constant scratching can damage the skin even further and actually spread infection. Don't let it get that far. If you are unsure about a rash on your hands, then get in contact with your doctor. There are several products that ease the itching and allow the skin to heal. Your doctor will be able to advise you, or he may forward you to a dermatologist.

Because of the risk of the infection spreading it's important to keep the affected area of skin clean, and try your best not to scratch the skin open. The itching can drive a man insane so it's imperative you get the right medicine to ease the itching as soon as possible.

In short : keep the skin moisturised, clean, and try not to scratch (we know how hard the latter is!). In cases of infection your doctor may prescribe an antibiotics cure.
